Biography Cheri Marcee is without question a vocalist extra ordinary. Her sultry and dynamic vocal style continues to captivate audiences everywhere. This multi-talented songwriter/ producer plays drums, bass and guitar. She has performed with some of the premier artistes of our time: Patti Labelle, Dizzy Gillespie, Buddy Rich, Spyro Gyra and Lou Rawls to name a few. Her tenure in the arts has given her a diverse range of experiences that include television, radio and jingle work. Some of her most notable work includes Microsoft, ETV, NBC and others. She has also toured in Japan with an R&B group and played in wide range of bands including Jazz, Top 40 and Beach Bands. for the past few years, Cheri has been working with the Robert Newton fusion/ funk group, Cheri Marcee's goal is to continue to write and perform music that wil1 inspire people. ODARTEY LAMPTEY
Dromo is a word meaning 'grace' from the Ga language of southern Ghana. The group was formed in 1999 by artistic director Odartey Lamptey, ' a master musician for Accra, Ghana who has been resident in England since 1988. Aims and Objectives The main aim of the group is to help people understand, appreciate and enjoy traditional African music, dance and story-telling through workshops and performance. What Dromo can offer you? v Music workshops v Dance Workshops Combined Music/ Dance workshops v African Story-telling/Games ž Lecture-demonstration/ discussion on African Culture Workshops cater to the specific needs and level of the group. Music includes traditional songs, clapping and drumming techniques and rhythms. Dance workshops include warm-up and graded movements building towards a mini-performance in one traditional style. At all levels the importance of meaning and of relationships between music and dance are stressed, within an atmosphere of participation, understanding, enjoyment and creativity.
